‘The Duelists’ Snuff Box, c.1810. This very rare snuff box made of an unknown and rarely encountered medium, a silvered surface with clear appliqué transfer and aquatint. The image depicts French Hussards participating in a forbidden yet popular activity between battles: A duel! The box, with a tarnished brass edge, shows some surface wear and light crazing but still exerts a certain charm and smells of tobacco snuff when opened! It is 3 3/8 inches diameter.
