The Saint Helena Medal for Veterans, c.1857. Upon the family's return to power, Charles Louis Napoleon Bonaparte honored Napoleon 1e and the veterans who served under him with the Saint Helena Medal. Combatants still living in 1857 were awarded this commemorative in a chocolate brown bronze. Though not officially issued in different grades, some veteran officers had their medal gilded, as with this example. The obverse shows the Emperor in profile and the edge with his name. The obverse reads: Campagnes de 1792 a 1815, a ses compagnons de glorie sa derniere pensee St Helene 5 mai 1821. In very good condition, with a minor bruising on the rim; 2 x 1 1/4 inches.
