French Dragoon on the retreat from Russia.  A magnificent figure sitting on his tired mount, his long cloak with attached shoulder cape held fast from the arctic winds by one hand, just seen gripping at the throat.  The tail of his helmet is whipped by the wind and his musket, tightly wrapped at the lock, is slung at his side.  The squared blanket behind the saddle is marked 1st Regiment.  5130 St. Petersburg Collection.
