Sailor’s Anchor Charm of U.S. Commodore Stephan Decatur, c.1812. This extremely rare piece was obviously manufactured for the American market by the same maker as the Nelson Charm above. Stephan Decatur was greatly admired by Nelson and later became famous for his leadership during the War of 1812. The fascinating aspect of this piece is that the maker, not having a die with the likeness of Decatur, simply used Napoleon as 1st Consul as a substitute! Gilt brass, with slight bruising to the anchor and 6 x 3 1/4 inches.
