Officer's Shako Rouleau, 4e Hussars at Waterloo

Officer\'s Shako Rouleau, 4e Hussars at Waterloo
Officer’s Shako Rouleau, Chef d’Escadron Desbats, 4e Hussars at Waterloo.  The depredations of the Campaigns of 1812, 1813 and 1814 resulted in great material shortages and efforts of economy in France.  One of the results of this need was the Shako Rouleau as manufacturing the cylindrical shako called for less work than in earlier years.  The effect however, was no less impressive in the field as this magnificent example proves.  It is a biographical piece , a copy of the Waterloo attributed shako worn by Chef d’Escaderon Desbats of the 4e Hussars.  Materials used include: Fuller’s board, century old woollen broadcloth, Belgium sheepskin, hempen cloth, gold bullion, gilded brass sheet and silk moiré.  References: Petard-Rigo La Cavalerie Legere du Premier Empire.
