Napoleonic Gold Foil Box with Miniature Scenes, c.1840.  This extraordinary collection of 89 engravings of the life of Napoleon was sold as a souvenir upon the Retour des Cindres, from St. Helena.  The event caused great nostalgia in France and this lovely decorative foil box contains 89 different line illustrations of scenes from the late Emperor's lifetime.  The title card reads: Napoleon Le Grand - Medaillons Historiques par un ancien Soldat de l'Empire.  The box is 3 1/4 inches diameter.
