Davison’s Petty Officer Battle of the Nile Medal, c.1798. (NEL-016) Produced at his own expense by Alexander Davison, Nelson’s prize agent, the medal was presented to every officer and seaman present at the Battle of the Nile. Issued in different base metals depending on rank, the Copper Gilt version was awarded to Petty Officers. It is believed that only 506 Copper Gilt Nile medals were delivered by the manufacturer and so are extremely rare. Condition is fine with some rubbing and surface burnishing to bring out the details, a condition very common in gilt copper medals. The medal is approximately 1 7/8 inches diameter.
This medal is also shown under the Nelson category in this website. It is not a second example.
