Bearskin: Grenadier a Cheval de la Garde
Bearskin Bonnet (Orson), Grenadier a Cheval de la Garde.
The Grenadiers a Cheval were often called
Les Grosse Bottes
due to the knee high riding boots.
As mounted Grenadiers their dress differed only in detail from foot Grenadiers.
Headwear had aurora trim, including the raquettes, and the crown patch remained a cross rather than a grenade.
The bonnet was worn without a cap plate but with the addition of scaled chinstraps.
The materials used are: Oak tanned leather, hair on goatskin, worsted woollen cording, woollen broadcloth, hempen cloth and Belgium sheepskin.
Reference source: Rousselot, L’Armee Francaise.
