Napoleon Awards the Legion to an Old Soldier.  A fine stipple engraving by Carriere, 11 1/2 x 9 inches; published c.1812.  Napoleon questions an old sweat whose uniform does not display the Legion d’Honneur.  Text at the base tells the story – and the reply that he has been recommended threetime (trios fois) but never received it.  Napoleon responds that at this fourth time he shall receive it.  A delightful piece of history!  With original hand colouring.  V.Fine.
