13th (Somerset LI) Regimental Merit Award, 1826
13th Foot (Somerset Lt. Infantry) Order & Gradation of Merit, c.1826.
Cast in
silver, 1 1/2 inches dia., with straight bar suspension.
The front with a bugle horn in high relief suspended from a rose by the bugle cords with the numeral
XIII
within; on the body of the horn, the words
Ava
and
Martinique.
Above the bugle a Sphinx with the word
Egypt
on the plinth and around the edge the words,
Medal of Merit for 14 Years Good Conduct.
The reverse is plain
,
inscribed
John Smith
(possibly later than the award
).
With dark patina, the raised extremities bright, and red ribbon with blue edges. Listed, Balmer p124.
