Fine Antiquarian & Modern Military Bronzes

We offer a superb collection of Limited Edition Bronze figures, featuring some of the most dramatic and memorable events and personalities of the 19th century. The figures are cast by the lost wax process and finished individually by hand.  At the final stage a patina is applied in traditional bronze or colour, according to your choice and then mounted on a revolving hardwood base.  When the edition is sold out, the master mold is destroyed. Bronzes are made to order; please allow eight weeks for completion.

19th Century Russian Fine Art Bronze:  The Kuban Cossack, by Evgeny Lansere (1848 1887).

Evgeny Lansere.  Lansere (Lancer-ray) developed the tradition of creating small bronze statuettes or groups, using themes of Russian history and the life of the native peoples of the Caucasus and Asiatic regions of Russia where he traveled extensively.  His work is marked by sharp observation and a masterly treatment of movement, thus ensuring his reputation as a master sculptor and artist.  Lanseres works are seldom seen at auction or in art circles, a testimony to his fame and a consistant increase in value.

The Kuban Cossack
The Cossack is shown standing in his traditional dress, fur hat, knee length coat and Cossack boots, raising a goblet to his mouth for a Farewell or perhaps a Coming Home celebratory drink.   His arms include rifle and ammunition bandolier, sword, and a dagger tucked into his waist sash.  T he dress of the Cossack would be consistent with that worn during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877 1878.  Lansere used a blackened bronze patina in the finishing of his pieces and the Cossack conforms to this treatment.  The bronze stands on a marble base for an overall height of just under 20 inches and the sculptured base, signed in Cyrillic:
